Ethereum Price Braces For a Major $260 Million Shock

Ethereum whale Garrett Jin deposited $178 million worth of ETH into Binance on May 8. BlackRock and Fidelity also sent a combined 35,394 ETH to Coinbase Prime within hours.

The combined flow exceeded 113,000 ETH valued at nearly $260 million. The transfers hit exchange-linked platforms as US spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) absorbed $103.5 million in outflows the day before.

Garrett Jin Trims ETH Stack by Over 20%

The whale, tagged on-chain as #BitcoinOG1011, still holds 303,618 ETH worth roughly $692.5 million. The address also retains 9,343 bitcoin (BTC).

Jin moved 165,000 ETH to Binance two days earlier in a similar pattern. The former BitForex chief executive built his reputation on outsized directional bets.

His track record includes a $735 million BTC short placed before the October 2025 crash. The wallet has rotated between BTC and ETH multiple times in 2026.

Whether the latest deposit reflects spot selling, hedging, or portfolio rebalancing is not visible on-chain.

Spot ETF Issuers Add Operational Pressure

Elsewhere, BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust sent 11,475 ETH worth $26.27 million to Coinbase Prime three hours before the whale move. Fidelity followed with 23,919 ETH worth $54.44 million within the next hour.

ETF deposits to Coinbase Prime do not always translate into spot sales. Issuers regularly use the platform for redemption baskets, custody shifts, and authorized participant flows tied to investor activity.

However, moving coins to exchanges may also signal intention to sell, in which case the moves by Gareth, BlackRock, and Fidelity could ultimately translate into selling.

Both moves coincide with $103.51 million in net outflows from US spot Ether ETFs on May 7. Fidelity’s FETH led with $62.26 million in redemptions, followed by BlackRock’s ETHA at $26.31 million.

Ethereum’s network fundamentals are weakening, with weekly average transactions dropping by 10% to 4.79 million, per data from Nansen. Active addresses dropped by 8% to 2.5 million over the same period.

Network fees also dropped by approximately 27%, leading to a 47% reduction in onchain revenue over the last seven days.

Additional data from DefiLlama shows that the weekly DEX volumes dropped to $1.64 billion on May 8, a 46% drop over the last three weeks.

Low transaction count, a drop in active addresses and declining DEX volumes reflect reduced ecosystem usage. As a result, the total value locked (TVL) in Ethereum’s DeFi protocols has dropped to $124.7 billion, levels last seen in May 2025.

This subdued network activity signals weak user conviction, affecting Ether’s ability to sustain upside price momentum. 

Ether’s exit queue jumps 72,000%

Ethereum’s unstaking queue jumped by approximately 72,000% within two weeks to 530,985 ETH on May 2. 

As of Friday, over 202,000 ETH were queued for redemption, with a wait time of around three days.

The surge comes after a series of significant DeFi hacks, reflecting investor caution. April 2026 saw DeFi platforms suffer a record $625 million in monthly losses following 30 separate attacks, including a $292 million loss from the KelpDAO bridge hack, leading to over $15 billion in deposits withdrawn from the Aave platform. 

These incidents have prompted investors to unstake ETH to regain liquidity, signaling flight from perceived risk.

“The exit queue went from ~700 ETH to ~500K ETH in 2 weeks,” analyst Pete said in a recent post on X, adding:

“DeFi yield on Ethereum is getting crushed by hacks, exploits and increasingly nasty attack surfaces.”

Despite the sharp surge in outflow pressure, 3.6 million ETH remains queued for staking entry (7x exit volume), pushing total staked ETH to 38.6 million (31.72% of supply) despite 45-day wait times.

Ether’s Coinbase Premium remains negative

The Ethereum Coinbase Premium Index, which tracks the price difference between ETH on Coinbase and Binance, has stayed negative since April 27.

A negative premium confirms that the selling pressure is originating heavily from US entities. As long as US investors are selling at a discount compared to the global market, downside momentum will likely accelerate.

Additionally, US-based spot Ethereum ETFs snapped a four-day inflow streak with $103 million in net outflows on Thursday, the largest withdrawal since mid-March.

Coupled with more than $81.6 million in outflows from global Ethereum investment products last week, this points to institutional selling, adding to Ether’s headwinds.

Meanwhile, ETH taker buy volume dropped to as low as -$25 million on Binance in recent days, indicating a “sharp increase in aggressive market sell orders,” CryptoQuant analyst BorisD said in a Quicktake note on Friday, adding:

“This structure raises the risk of short-term volatility and a support retest for ETH price action.”

Ether’s rising wedge breakdown is underway

The daily chart shows the ETH/USD pair validating a rising wedge pattern after the price lost support at the pattern’s lower trend line at $2,300. 

Bulls are now fighting to keep the price above $2,150-$2,200, where the 100-day and 50-week simple moving averages (SMAs) are, respectively.

Another key line of defense is the $2,000 psychological level, which, if breached, would clear the path for Ether’s drop toward the measured target of the wedge at $1,830, about 20% below the current price.

On Wednesday, analysts at QCP highlighted the outlook as largely boosted by geopolitical developments. 

“Trump’s pause on “Project Freedom” is read as a de-escalation signal, sending oil lower, equities higher, and the dollar softer. $BTC has reclaimed $80k alongside the S&P 500’s best month since 2020, trading once again as a high-beta expression of dollar weakness and risk appetite,” they noted.

These factors point to mounting bullish sentiment, and Cardano could capitalize on this and the market’s broader recovery to eye higher levels.

Analyst Starts Buying Dogecoin Again As Price Hits Critical Level

Crypto analyst Kevin, known online as Kev Capital TA, said he has started buying Dogecoin again after the memecoin fell back to what he described as a major long-term support zone near $0.095. In a video published April 20, Kevin argued the level matters because it aligns with the measured move target of Dogecoin’s weekly bear flag and with a price area that has repeatedly acted as both support and resistance across prior cycles.

Dogecoin Could Be Near A Major Turning Point

Kevin said Dogecoin’s corrective move from its December 2024 cycle high near $0.49 has now largely fulfilled the downside target he had been watching for months. “If you just take the measured move target of the bear flag pattern, you’re basically sitting at the exact same price of what the measured move target is,” he said, placing that target at about $0.095.

That level, in his view, is not just a technical target but a historically important zone. Kevin pointed back to August 2024, when Dogecoin bottomed near the same area before rallying sharply in the fourth quarter, and to earlier periods in 2022, 2023 and early 2024 when the band acted as resistance, support, or a breakout-retest level. “This is a major level, right? This is a major major zone,” he said. “You found support here back in January 2024 before we legged up to the 23 cents level. You found the support here again in the summertime of 2024 before we legged up to 49 cents.”

Even so, Kevin stopped well short of calling a confirmed macro bottom in Dogecoin. His broader framework remains centered on Bitcoin, which he repeatedly described as the market’s primary signal. “Altcoin charts are not living in their own world,” he said. “Bitcoin is the captain. Bitcoin is the king. Bitcoin is the queen. Whatever way you want to put it, whatever way you want to slice and dice it, that’s the way the market goes.”

That point shaped the rest of his Dogecoin thesis. Kevin said he has started a position at current levels, but only as part of a gradual accumulation plan that depends heavily on how Bitcoin behaves in the weeks ahead. “I have in our private group started a position in Dogecoin down at these levels,” he said. “My plan is to continue to allocate into it if I get the opportunity to. If Bitcoin were to leg lower … then I would hope to get the opportunity to then slowly, very slowly allocate into Dogecoin all the way down into this $0.08, $0.07, $0.06, maybe $0.05.”

His near-term read is constructive, but only in a limited sense. He pointed to improving weekly money flow, buy signals, upside movement in weekly stochastic RSI, and a bullish turn in LMACD on lower time frames as evidence that the market is in a late-winter, early-spring countertrend rally. But he argued Dogecoin still faces a heavy technical ceiling before traders can talk about a real trend reversal.

On the weekly chart, Kevin said Dogecoin needs to reclaim the 21-week EMA and 20-week SMA around the low-$0.11 area, while higher resistance bands sit around $0.136, $0.147 and $0.161 depending on the moving average used. On the monthly chart, he said the picture is even less convincing. Dogecoin, according to Kevin, closed below the 100 EMA on the monthly for the first time in its history, while monthly momentum, money flow and LMACD have yet to show the kind of reset he associates with the end of a bear market.

“Treat it as a bear market for now,” he said. “This countertrend rally is nice, but for now, it’s still just a countertrend rally on the crypto market until proven otherwise.”

That leaves Dogecoin in a familiar place: attractive enough for selective accumulation, but still dependent on Bitcoin to validate any broader reversal. Kevin said he expects the “true bottom” for the cycle to arrive sometime between July and October if the standard four-year pattern continues. Until then, his message was less about chasing Dogecoin itself than about watching the asset that still sets the tone for everything around it.
